Interview with Jeff

Good afternoon! MORBID/REBELS/WOW here with an interview from a musician who I think does not get as much notice as he deserves. JEFF/CAMELOT - the interview was done through mail and was received on 13/7/1993.

M)
Please tell our readers a little about yourself.

J)
My real name is Søren Lund I was born on 16.04.74.

M)
When did you start on the scene and what have been your former handles/groups?

J)
I started playing around with some lame music-editors in 1988, but actually I joined my first group (DANIAX) in the end of 1990 I think. In the autumn 91 I joined X-FACTOR together with AXTROX and SCULPTURE of DANIAX. people started to notice me and my music. I developed new players etc. and then one day X-FACTOR "died". so I had to join a new group. at that moment I knew GLASNOST, VIC, FLEXI and DUCK LAROCK. so I joined CAMELOT together with NEPTUNE/EX.X-FACTOR and SCULPTURE/EX.X-FACTOR. and Camelot is the group I’m in right now. but I still keep in touch with the old X-FACTOR guys and I might join the new-coming PC-division of X-FACTOR. before I joined Daniax my handle was NICK.

M)
What is the member status of Camelot?

J)
The actual CAMELOT-member status looks like this (I guess)...
GLASNOST, DUCK LAROCK, CRUZER, SLAMMER, WAVE, RAZ, NEPTUNE, REX, DAN, SPINX, VIC, KRING, NIGEL, TRIX, SCULPTURE, FLEXI, TGD AND METAL. (ED - and of course Jeff) METAL is in VIBRANTS on the PC, but we might still use some of his unused C64-music. nobody has heard from TGD for around 2.5 years and there are a lot of lazy members. All the members are from Denmark...

M)
What musical instruments do you play?

J)
I play a little keyboard and I used to play drums some years ago.

M)
Where do you usually get your inspiration for your music?

J)
Some years ago I got my inspiration only from other C64-music, but now I watch a little MTV and I listen to the following artists... Red Hot Chili Peppers, Toto, Bjork, Metallica, Spin-Doctors, Faith No More, Jean-Micheal-Jarre, Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, Guns n' Roses, Mike Oldfield, Cut'n'Move , Alice in Chains, Lenny Krawitz, Leila K, Jamiroquai, Duran Duran, Dépêche Mode, Living Color and many more...

M)
Does/did anyone in your family have something to do with music?

J)
The only one in my family who can play music too, is my father, but that doesn't count because we have different opinions
about what music is.

M)
What are the styles of music you like?

J)
The styles I like are...
Jazz, funk, fusion, rock, pop, rock'n'roll, techno, house, heavy, soul and hip-hop.

M)
What is your opinion on the Australian scene?

J)
Since I don't know much about the Australian scene I can not answer this question (please tell me something about it later, ok?!!?!?)

M)
Do you live on the scene for charts?

J)
About the charts. It's a shame that not every C64-freak votes in every disk-mag. Many disk-mags are not spread as much as others, so the charts will never be correct in my opinion. I sometimes think that I'm too high ranked, for example I was ranked higher than GEIR TJELTA/MOZ(IC)ART in a disk-mag, even though he's much better than me. And sometimes situation is opposite.

M)
What do you think of Australian composers. Can we compete with Europe?

J)
I don't know any other Australian musicians than you in PEARL, so that's hard to say. but I think you're just as good as some of the European composers.

M)
Who are your main idols on the C64?

J)
My "idols" on the scene are... JCH, Drax, Moz(ic)Art, Guy Shavitt, MSK, Scortia, Metal, Deek, Jereon Tel, Laxity, Xayne, A-man, Cane, Tim Follin, Zardax, Steel, Danko (only his music, not his person, because he's too proud of himself and he thinks that he's the best, I would wish that somebody could teach him that if you use filter in a voice, you must not suddenly turn it off, because then there will be a sound-bug), Chris Huelsbeck, and the TIA members are getting better and better.

M)
What are your future plans?

J)
I want to start doing music on the PC in the AD-LIB format and maybe code a PC-player, when I learn a bit more about assembler-programming on PC. I hate school and long educations, so I’ll probably just get a work as a post-man, just like JCH.

M)
What are some of your other hobbies?

J)
I used to play basket-ball but 1.5 years ago I had an accident with my left foot and it will never heal 100%. it actually still hurts sometimes. I like drinking a lot of alcoholics, actually I’m known for that in my home-town. I can drink 70cl of vodka mixed with 150cl cola, without puking or falling asleep. I like to meet new people, watch some videos or TV, go to parties (also computer-parties) and I liked being together with my girlfriend, but she left me 8 weeks ago. sometimes I go fishing - I enjoy that.

M)
Thank you for the interview do you have any last words?

J)
Look out for some soon-coming Camelot-demos. the people who has already left the C64-scene are mostly lamers because they can't get their routines to run in realtime etc. or they can't get new and cool ideas, but CAMELOT is a group which produces quality products with good design, graphics, sound, ideas and code. By the way, look out for PADUA-products, because BULLDOG has started using some of my old music, which actually is very lame (player v6). But he has changed the player-notes, to something like... "MUSIC AND PLAYER BY BULLDOG" I don't why he's doing that, but it sure makes him even more lame. I’m going to spread a new music-pack in about 2 months I guess, and I’ll also write the story about that BULL(SHIT)DOG-guy so that more people will have the chance to find out how lame he is,  that's it.... catch up later dudes!!

Signed: Jeff of Camelot

Okay that's it for this issue. I'm still waiting for the interview with JEROEN TEL and DRAX, so hopefully they might be ready for next issue. if not, I may interview either ISPACE or NANTCO of WARRIORS OF MUSIC.

MORBID/Rebels/WOW.
