Interview with Crossfire

Published in Vandalism News #22
Performed by Vengeance

Welcome to the interview for issue edition. It is very unlike me to interview a former enemy, one of which I was waring for a fairly long time. But as he is probably one of the most controversial sceners ever, I thought this interview would be quite interesting for the readers, and besides its his WEDDING DAY. That’s right this time we have interview none other than CROSSFIRE from MOTIV 8. Just goes to show there really is a first time for everything.

V)
Hello, well as this marks a strange moment in the history of this magazine, we may as well get straight into the interview. But before we do, this interview is actually a SERIOUS one even though there's some questions, that seems a little strange, anyway please introduce yourself to our readers..

C)
Well, I guess there isn't much to say. So many people has been nagging on me calling me nicknames and it is no surprise to anyone that my name is KIM, I guess... Well currently, I study informatics at a school in my home town Aarhus, and I’m 22 years of age as of mid' June 1995. There isn't much to say - Some would say I dedicated my life to the computer and doesn't have a real, but lets just say that, unlike certain other individuals, I don't need to act like a hot shot to gain confidence on the things I’ve done! Might sound harsh, but I feel there is a thing or two that needs to be set in place.

V)
Well Kim, if I was you I wouldn't act like a HOTSHOT for the things you've done anyway.:). But anyway, what today be a special day, your getting married to BIRD, how does it feel? and would you rather get married to anyone else...?

C)
Heh... I thought this was meant to be a serious interview, but hey I’m game!!! You really should stop HITTING on him, Matt. He is mine and mine alone (......who am I kidding?!)..Haha... I even had to what can one do? I'm only a human being! Haha....(The readers might wanna know that this -IS- an internal joke, and nothing more.....!?). Anyone else? Well, I've been seeing COOLHAND/SUCCESS + TRC behind Tommy's back, so he is a potential "WIFE" for me too, I think... Haha!!! But let's a do get serious for once shall we?  ;).

V)
Yeah well, I’m sure BIRD will be devastated to hear that, and yep this is a serious interview which leads us to the next question, tell us a bit about the history behind MOTIV 8?

C)
Well, ok... The story is similar to many other groups’ story. I was in Epic. when TRICKET, the old leader of DOMINATORS, and I decided to build up a new group and things pretty much started to happen by themselves. We took in a bunch of lamers to begin with, but they were kicked quite fast (in fact, JASON and DOOM never came further than being on trial!).. Then Peacemaker, Curlin, Vortex & Racoon joined us and contributed a lot to the group well. Our biggest mistake ever was recruiting Sun Dancer after being kicked from REGINA. After a good month in the group he began -trying- to run everything, and anyone not agreeing with his opinions was to get the knife. In the end it got too much for me so I took it upon myself to kick him out. Tricket strongly objected to this, left  MOTIV 8 and took down his board which was the EHQ of MOTIV 8 and THE PULSE at the time. Sun Dancer finally completed his goal, buttered TRICKET up to thinking that I was a trouble maker, which I, believe it or not , is NOT. He made it look like I wanted to run it all, and SUN DANCER had a tendency to be very persuasive - anyone who knows him will bear witness to how disgustingly he can act to get people on his side, and in the end Tricket got mad and skipped all his activities. Sun Glancer's goal was completed and god save his ass if I ever bump into him on the street on a dark night (ED - most nights are dark Kim). Due to this mess, most of the Germans, that being anyone except for EDDIE, decided to leave in late 94'. We were all ready to quit, cause we thought our goals had been completed, and none of us really cared to repair the loss and gain some new members, so we took a fairly long break and finally one late night in NOVEMBER while talking to BIRD we decided to get back on line for real again. We organized some different things were able to return in mid' December 94 and since then, we've been doing first-releases on a active basis again, like we did before our break. These days, MOTIV 8 is not so much based on a competitive level, we are just here to have a little fun and to put a release now and then, whenever we got something. The days of hunting for them is over, it brought us a lot of fame, but also a lot of enemies and in the end, nobody really cared two months after, who had the release of the argued game. The discussion had turned to hate arguments was just carried out, and none could really remember WHAT was the original topic. In my eyes, this whole rush and warring for points is kind of ridiculous. I recently got a piece of e-mail from another famous scener, who will remain nameless, saying that anyone saying they didn't release for points was lying to themselves, but I guess I must be one in a million, then! :) Earlier we DID do it for the points, but these days it is much different.

V)
Well, I guess at the beginning most groups try hard for points, to make some kinda impact on the scene, then later only more of a group spirit arrives, but still there are so out there who play hard for points. What about your personal history, outta all the groups and handles you've had which was the bets time for you, or rather when was the scene the most fun?

C)
Haha....you are trying to guide me to say something I won'  !!! But really - the EXORY-times was fun - think of all the attention I gained just for doing a few lame things. Minimum effort - maximum result! That is a thing people never give any consideration, but as earlier stated, I’m game, so I actually enjoyed it. Of course, my time in MOITV 8 has been the best in my scene career, maybe mostly because I was a serious scener in this period of time - I don't know, really....

My whole scene-career has pretty much been great, otherwise I doubt I would have stuck around for 9... one might say I tried everything that there is to try in this scene - I’ve been through good as well as bad, and taken it all with the type of irony that I have seen fight. Even these days some wannabe's even tend to bring up the EXORY-topic and attempts to nag at me on the boards and in  some lame magazines, but I couldn't really care less, cause they are not in anyway worth my attention nor my time so that kind of lays out the daily line. Some wannabe's even tend to bring up the EXORY topic and attempts to rag me with that shit, on the inside I am laughing my ass off, cause none of the geeks were even in remotely thought of when  I had my EXORY-TRIP, so they are in no way able to judge fair nor to make any kind of settlement. Latest, some true lamer casually mentioned, regarding a few re-releases by ACCEPT, that EXORY shouldn't shout up about it cause he wasn't one bit better himself, and all I can say is that it shows huge loss of knowledge on this rookies part, especially considering the fact, that I haven't done less re releases than most other groups in the scene just uses it in vain whenever they are fresh out of decent comments. This little jerk off whom I’m talking about knows who he is, and so does anyone else who've  been hanging around the Danish boards the last months, and I know for a fact that he'll be reading this, so THERE...!

V)
Well speaking of being ragged, we all of course know you have been in a few wars, but have you had any lesser known wars rather than the incident with ANTICHRIST and with me? and explain a bit about some of the incidents with ANTICHRIST?

C)
Oh well... Oliver sure had a lot of grouch against me back in the EXORY-times (1990), and I must say that I can understand it. However, that war got too far and in the end everything had been exaggerated so far that you wouldn't believe it. It all started, when I was in another group called UNICESS, and we had a member named 2COOL leaving DYNAMIX to join us. Oliver nagged at him and of course I had to stand up for the guy, and...Well, Oliver turned his anger against me, and that was pretty much how it all started. Later on, a lot of things started to happen. Oliver made up some shit about me, exaggerated some things I should have done, etc. Sure, I did do a lot of stupid things, but you actually do have to take about 80 per cent of all Oliver said away, and the remaining 20 per cent would be true. Strange shit, eh? :) ANYWAY...besides this very official war, I’ve had a lot of fighting on the boards. With whom is slightly unimportant, and I’m sure your readers are very familiar with our problems in the past, so I don't think I should bore anyone by going into that, since I think that topic has been covered and blown up and lost all its proportion, so... Sure, I’ve had my share, particularly last year when we were fighting about releases with particularly any group in existence - You know, the old rubbish - Is THAT fixed 100% and if not, then WE will and get the points. Oh! a PAL-RELEASE! lets fix it! Oh shit, not 100% oh well...give me the points, they don't deserve it! We had the game on 3 boards and you only had it on 2 boards. He can't fix this and he can't fix that! Does the sentences ring a bell? Quite childish when you think about it! I still remember PEACEMAKER working his butt off, cause I was a bit hard on (ED - hard on? heh heh cool) getting him to work - No wonder he left us in the end! Haha… I guess fighting other groups is all in a day's work for a wares-group. I am positive that there isn't any wares-group in this scene who can honestly say, that they haven't been fighting other groups at one time or another. Me, I think I’ve had enough trouble with ALL of the wares-groups around a year ago, but hell, as I said, its all in a day's work. being a group with first releases, is not just getting the releases, it is also defending them against the ever on going complaints and things people claim to let you have -5 points instead of what the ware is really worth... I think all elite-groups will agree to this... It's incredible what excuses people can have to put out a "100%" version - a rasterline bugging on NTSC and before you know it another version is out. A missing loader-picture only containing the name of the company anyway, etc. Sure, we used these opportunities from time to time ourselves, but as I’ve come to think about it, it kind of makes the entire US SCENE look a bit rotten. I know some people won't consider what I am about to say very popular, but I think the point-system is what ruined it all! Of course this is only my observation, but I think the way that MAMBA did it was way better. You don't like that statement - Tough! I never did care much for being popular anyway! :)

V)
Its true yes, every cracker group has hassles with the points system and arguments always come from this, an excuse to do a 100% version in order to steal points, not to provide the scene with a decent flow of releases is quite common as well. There really isn't a US-SCENE nowadays though, other than the odd fix from a EMPIRE, TSM, and even DEMONIX most of the
fixing is done by EUROPEAN fixers, it hardly seems important that these games are fixed nowadays anyway they all suck, and if they are fixed by Euros what’s the point? POINTS! sad but true, anyway wanna tell us why you made a come back after all this EXORY shit?

C)
Good question - actually, I don't know! I was gone from the scene for about a year after these incidents, and I returned mostly just to get some wares so I could earn some money selling them, but one thing took the other, and before I knew it I was cracking again, on a serious line this time, though. As for the selling, I never got around to that anyway! Haha... Now, with all this talk about my many groups and my many handles, I must be getting tired of it without knowing, cause I have had this handle for about 4 years now, I was in EPIC for 18 months and MOTIV 8 is equally old - Don't know what has happened, but I must be getting old! Pff... heh... in the 80ies I had quick trips and never really got settled in any group. The group I had been in the longest was about 6 months back then. I was in a lot of different groups - both demo and cracker groups. I was in a DANISH demo group named NOISE back in '88 and when NOISE spilt up in 89', some of us joined DOMINATORS. The rest kept running NOISE for a good few months but in the end the remaining crowd left and joined NATO, and these days they can be found in CREST (referring to MADUPLEC and TIGER, that is!), and the PC-SECTION of BONZAI. I've been in so many groups through my 9 years in the scene that I can hardly remember it, and I've used about 6 different handles, I think. Still, that was then and this is now.

V)
Well I think your quite known for HOLOCAUST, a remembered group, still it must have been fun back then if you could change the past would you make HOLOCAUST your group today?

C)
Hm... Interesting concept! I’ll give that some consideration... No, but seriously...I had a great time, but I have no intentions of pursuing that "career"... I’m quite happy being in MOITV 8 now and I haven't gotten any un-reached goals, so we'll just stick around doing some stuff from time to time, whenever we feel like it...whether or not we are gonna cause any real competition to other wares-groups like we did back in mid '94 is doubtful. We don't have the time and we don't really feel like it any longer. We release when we got something to put out, and that is it! Talking about HOLOCAUST, a lot of people associated it with me being a SKINHEAD!, which is really not that strange. I just wanna make it clear, that I'm no skinhead, racist, or whatever. Not that I’m afraid that the anti-fascist movement in the scene will be on my ass, cause I don't care about THAT. What is such a movement doing in the scene ANYWAY?, it has a place! get a real life and practice it there, people! The neighbourhood is the best place to start, when you think of it! Tsts... Even about 2 miles from where I live we have a ghetto where about 75% of the population are foreigners. Myself, I don't mind and god knows I’ve had some good friends amongst a couple of Germans who also had TURKISH-like names, hell, we have STONE in MOTIV 8 now, and VORTEX/AFL used to be a member as well and is also a guy whom I consider a good friend. The whole "HOLOCAUST"-concept was actually thought by LTH whom I built the group with. He later got the KICK and joined X-RAY - I'm positive some people will remember him cause he was quite a remarkable character, and not in the positive sense of the word!

V)
Really? I don't even consider VORTEX at all,...strange how people are different, I am no racist either but there’s a place for everything, and RASCISM is not a part of the scene if it was people wouldn't mail trade. So lets not make it a part of the scene... but onto a lighter note... When you and BIRD have SEX, do you ruffle his feathers to get him sexually aroused or?

C)
Could we skip that for a second, please ? :) I get a hard on just THINKING ABOUT IT!! Haha...

V)
Really? well I don't know I could manage more than a quick vomiting session after just thinking about you 2 together anyway.:) Nowadays however, the cracker scene is becoming more and more evened out...for example a lot of new groups are getting the
jumps with first releases like...XENON, EXCESS etc, etc. Is there one particular group you can expect to do well? Give your prediction?

C)
Well.....you Really want me to comment on that don't you? I don't know... ONSLAUGHT and HARDCORE (here it comes, the line you wanna hear! haha!) is new groups who seems very competent in competing with other groups, but I don't really know about the rest. I remember EXCESS starting to call the boards just before we took our break, but I don't remember having
seen anything from them on the boards... Apart from (O+H), it is the same groups who was competing last year (AFL, F4CG, SCS*TRC,CHROMANCE, etc. etc)... To me nothing new has happened, really... MAYBE except for this group calling themselves ACCEPT... THEY remind me of my a lot of my old times as EXORY, I gotta say that!! I am eager, though, to see if this new group called "NEMESIS" will enter the wares scene! God knows, with roots in PANDORA and other groups they should be able to produce something from time to time - Let's hope! As for the newer groups, and this is also mentioned other where, ONE thing I fucking HATE is a fucking superior attitude towards others, and this is meant to hit a couple of people who knows who they are! Worst superior attitude amongst newbie’s, who thinks that they somehow got the right to call themselves ELITE because an elite-group has been unaware for a second and taken them in on TRIAL. I could go on and mention names, but I’ll leave it at that for now. Three elements of this species will get what is coming to them sooner or later anyway,
so why bother... :)

V)
I think I have some idea about what you are talking about Kim, maybe its better you didn't mention names. But on the subject of newbie’s what do you think the reason for all these newer groups getting first releases is ???

C)
Well, what can I say? - Anybody can spend an hour or two coding something that looks like a preview. I've been accused of this myself, but I think it was just because I  had some wars going at the time. Most people knows its bullshit anyway - I wouldn't have the time, but I’d be damned if I would waste spear time on coding something, so that we had something to release.
what really is interesting is seeing all these previews, and then to count the amount of FULL games getting released. Makes you go Hmmm..., doesn't it??

V)
Well so does the legal side of the scene, so lets talk about it for a minute, what demo groups would you say have the strong hold nowadays, and do you expect an awesome groups to appear with the shock that REFLEX has in the last year?

C)
Sorry, but when it comes to demo's I am way out in the forest!!! I must admit never to have seen anything from this REFLEX-gang, I think I chatted with a member from them. You telling me it is a demo group is all news to me. However I saw the WORLD OF CODE demos from BYTERAPERS, and they were really impressive, but apart from that, I’m afraid I’m totally unable to comment anything. These days I don't get much stuff - I get the games which is first released, a few mags, VERY few demos and just about nothing else. I'm quite happy that way, but sometimes a few surprises DOES appear! I saw that "VIRTUAL BRUTALITY" from EXILE (ED - Geez, nice demo actually) and I loved it (what CINDY CRAWFORD drooler wouldn't...?). I also really like groups like PADUA, FOCUS, SPIRIT, MEGASTYLE PRD. (hoping Scroll will soon get something released...) and of course Denmark’s own CAMELOT. I just hate demos with long waiting hours. I get so damn impatient.

V)
Well, there has been much talk about Australians lately and there are certain sceners who dislike the AUSSIES - what do you really think of them? - how do they compare to Euros?

C)
I never had much to do with the Australia scene. These days I just think "ONSLAUGHT" if someone says "AUSTRALIA". I used to know COLWYN of THE FORCE. These days I am only in contact with you, MATT', JAZZCAT, and SHADES, whom I have got a few pieces of E-MAIL from, and at occasion I have a little chat with HIGLANDER/FAIRLIGHT too. However, I think the reason why so many is against Australia is because of all those LAME(!) magazines which has been produced down under the last… many... years! These days the standard is improving majorly, but lets face it - only a few years ago, Australia was something people would rather ignore. Personally, I never really gave it much consideration, apart from wonder why we in Europe had to be bothered with all those lame OZ-only magazines that I used to get in mean streams back when I was still mail trading. It's surely a fact that two of the most important mags in the scene of today actually comes from down under, but its hard to ruin a bad reputation (I, for one should know!)...

V)
Well, only if you create that reputation for yourself if you create a different one you can get away with anything... its all on how you act, if you act well and don't act lamely, there’s no problem I think... but Australia is behind in the styles as its so far away, I for one know this.....But on to the actually C64 for a while, in the next years what are you expecting to happen to the Commodore? will the scene die or? What about you personally are you still going to grace us with your presence or are you leaving the scene?

C)
You wish! Haha...Well, people already said the CBM64 would be dead in a short time back in 1988, and today we write 1995 and it is still alive - maybe not as graceful as 5 years ago - Lets face it, all games coming these days is from either GERMANY or POLAND, and even Norway is beginning now, and there’s nothing wrong with that, but WHERE is all the ENGLISH games? We might as well admit it to ourselves - like it or not, the COMMODORE 64 is a threatened species, and its time is limited. Its Sad, but true. Myself, hell, I’m gonna stick around for as long as the machine still bears the slightest bit of activity, especially  with some of the really special friends I’ve gained here. The last REAL game to come out from the UK was "MAYHEM IN
MONSTERLAND", if I’m not too incorrect, and that is back in late 93. A few more or less useless budgets has been released via COMMODORE FORCE, but who'll count them in the long run? None! There was of course also "LEMMINGS" in mid '94, the only major title last year, but even that one was published through a German company. Go Figure!

V)
Maybe things will pick up now that ESCOM brought and are going liquidate the 64 again, also INTERNET will help I guess, and on that subject you are quite an INTERNET freak, is that going to replace the boards in your opinion?

C)
For me, it already HAS! I definitely think the internet is the future. After I started on the net, I haven't cared if I had cards or not in any way. The last many first releases from MOTIV 8 has been spread via the INTERNET, and I haven't really called the US-BOARDS for a long time and we still keep putting out release - you figure it out! Internet is the future... As soon as people starts to figure it out, the boards will be a very lonely place to be. The sites will replace the UD-SECTIONS of the boards, and IRC will replace the subs on the boards. Leeching even goes awesomely fast. Yesterday it took me only 2 minutes to grab about 600 blocks, and I even had a bad connection, so I guess that says it all, doesn't it? So far I’ve been using the various c64-sites run by SCS*TRC and F4CG and the legal one runned by ANONYM/PADUA and some others... and soon MOTIV 8 will have one too, and that one will be really special, but more info will be spread later!

V)
Well are there any last words for our readers Kim? Send any greetings?

C)
Yeah I wanna thank all members of MOTIV 8 for sticking with me and bearing over with the Danish division during our absence. Furthermore, I’d like to thank the following heard of people for supporting me/us both now and during our absence : COOLHAND, PEACEMAKER, CURLIN, RACOON, VORTEX, JAZZCAT, VENGEANCE,CHOTAIRE, HOMEBOY, STAKE, PLAYBOY, NEWSCOPY, MOTLEY, DUKE, ZIRCO, SLEDGE, MIDNIGHT MOVER, ANTITRACK, MASSIVE ONSLAUGHT, SOLAR, THE UNHOLY, MAJESTY, ALCHEMIST, LEXI, IRATA, STABILIZER, NEGSPECT, BOD, HAIN, RUG RAT, SPLATTERHEAD....and....I give up! V)

C)
You're welcome, Matt' it was a pleasure....

Well that’s it for this times interview, next issue you'll read ZZAP of NOICE, I am sick of the idea of trying to print the interview with JVD/FOCUS, MORBID is too lazy to do anything... [8) come on Dwayne....

Until next time...
